With another heat wave predicted for this weekend, we know that everyone is going to have trouble sleeping. Panic not - we are here with our top ten tips to help you and your family. These suggestions will enable you to sleep more easily and coolly throughout the night without the use of an air conditioner.

Freeze your bedding

Yes - this really does work, we have tried it! Put your pillowcases and sheets in the freezer a few hours before you want to go to bed - rest assured that they won't emerge rigid as a board! They will, however, remain icy for long enough that you can doze off without getting too hot.

Freeze your socks

Stay with us here - this is really effective if you can stand sleeping in socks! You can also freeze your socks for cooling comfort in a similar way as freezing your bedding. Your feet and toes, like your fingers, are sensitive to temperature fluctuations and help to control body temperature. Keeping your feet cool helps to cool down your whole body!

Use a wet towel layer

To help your body cool off while you sleep, spread a damp towel on your bed over the covers (not soaking wet!). To avoid soaking your mattress in water, which could harm the foam in your mattress, we advise placing a dry towel below the wet one. Even while the towel won't stay cold the whole night, it should stay cool enough for you to fall asleep.

Take advantage of fans and make your own air conditioner

Compared to air conditioners, fans use far less energy and are cheaper. They utilise around 1% of what AC uses in terms of electricity. Utilise fans by positioning them carefully throughout your room. Place a bowl of ice water in front of one fan and place it close to your bed. The fan will blast chilly air in your direction thanks to the ice. A window fan should then be pointed outward to exhaust the heated air from your bedroom outside.

Avoid sleeping naked

On the internet, there may be suggestions that if you sleep naked you will stay cool. If you naturally sleep cool, that might work, but if you start to sweat, it won't help you much. It's better to wear lightweight pyjamas (ideally cotton) that can drain moisture away if you're hot. If not, your body is likely to perspire all over your bedding.

Think about a cooling mattress or mattress topper

Many mattresses, particularly ones manufactured with common memory foam, retain heat, however our cooling mattress and topper range uses a specialist cooling foam, it is a revolutionary foam with an open celled structure which will enhance the airflow around your body and thus dissipate heat more efficiently to keep you cooler. The quality of your sleep can actually be much improved by using the correct mattress or topper.

Consider cooling bedding

If purchasing a new mattress is out of your price range, you can choose to relieve discomfort with cooling sheets or pillows. Look for sheets that are made of breathable materials, such as organic cotton, linen, or bamboo. Bamboo is excellent at absorbing perspiration and keeping you cool, and organic cotton is very effective at wicking moisture away.

Utilise blackout curtains or blinds during the day

Use blackout curtains or blinds to keep your bedroom from getting too warm during the day, especially in the summer. They not only keep your bedroom dark but also have the ability to reflect heat and prevent it from coming in via the windows.

Sleep downstairs

Hot air rises, which is unfortunate if your bedroom is upstairs. As a result, the top floor of your home will be warmer than the ground floor. So, when you need some reprieve from the heat, consider sleeping downstairs - have a camp out, it could be fun!

Before going to bed, drink iced water

Before going to bed, consume a lot of water to try to prevent night sweats. Additionally, stay away from alcohol before bed because it might encourage dehydration, which can make it more difficult for your body to maintain a constant body temperature.
